Preservation League of NYS Guest Post
Giving New Life to a Historic Building
On Thursday, May 30th, 2024, Springbrook unveiled the Ford on Main in Oneonta, New York, a mixed-use development in downtown Oneonta. The event brought together community members and local dignitaries to tour the building, the top two floors of which have been fully renovated to include 24 market-rate apartments. In October 2022, I contributed a guest post about the historic Ford block for the Preservation League of New York State.

Launching The Ford on Main
Leading up to the successful unveiling of The Ford on Main, on Main Street in Oneonta, New York, the marketing department at Springbrook created a website and advertising copy to engage the public and gather interest. In addition to the launch, we organized two days of private and public tours with tastings from local restaurants.
Southern Tier Connect
The Intersection of LGBTQ+ and Disability
Issues like discrimination in healthcare and insurance affect the LGBTQ+ population as a whole, but did you know that approximately five million LGBTQ+ people in America have a disability? Being a person with a disability and identifying as LGBTQ+ can lead to poor health outcomes and higher rates of mental health conditions, exclusion from being an active participant in both communities due to poor infrastructure and planning, and being subject to gatekeeping.

This issue of Springbrook’s Inspirations magazine addresses topics from medicinal marijuana for people with developmental disabilities to supported education and inclusion in the workforce. Every issue of Inspirations magazine contains long-form content and short copy focused on stories from around the organization. News From the Noteworthy
Springbrook’s CEO Patricia Kennedy regularly contributed to the News From the Noteworthy section of the local newspaper. I was responsible for collaborating with, and writing and editing articles for, the CEO, including the News from the Noteworthy. Here’s the introduction written for May 2024. I can provide the full article upon request.
“Now that we’ve had abundant rain, I am sure we are all ready for some sunshine! But all that rain brings plentiful fields of wildflowers, a back yard full of color, and beautiful birds. When I look around the habitat of my back yard, I think this is the kind of diversity and integration I look for in my community and the cities I visit around the country and abroad. I do all I can to maintain a healthy habitat for the life around me, not only in the back yard of my home but also for my family, friends, coworkers, and neighborhood.”
